History of Barangay Hernando
This place was a former district of Anao, but in the year 1969, it was requested to become a barangay by the Municipal Council, by means of a resolution. Such resolution was granted hence, the place became a barangay. The former name was Florida, then it was named as San Juan and later named as Hernando, in honor of Don Hernando Ongsiako, a haciendero who owns the place.
The number of households by the time it was created was only 48 with a total population of 326. To date, it has a total of 63 households with a population of 416. The main source of the residents’ income is farming although there are some who are engaged in other industries.
THE SEAL
The seal of Barangay Hernando is spherical in shape. At the rim of the sphere bears the name of the barangay. Inside this sphere is a solitary tree, a rivefield, a rising sun and the year it was created as a barangay.
The seal is designed spherical so that it has its face on all angle. This denotes its readiness to face all forms of challenged that may come.
The tree symbolizes unity, cooperation and self-reliance. It has a balance distribution of roots that causes the tree to vegetate and serve as a strong foundation for the trunk not to waver against whipping winds.
The ricefields show that most of the people in this barangay are farmers.
The rising sun symbolizes hope, that in every new day, dawn, there is hope.
In general, this seal embodies the aspirations and ideals of Barangay Hernando.
UNITY AND COOPERATION BREEDS PRODUCTIVE PEOPLE.
